Green beans cooked fast in a hot pan until they blister, with white onion, garlic and Mama Nina Mix. Bacon if you want it.
You'll need: stainless steel sauté pan with a lid
Ingredients
- 1 lb green beans, trimmed
- 3 slices bacon, chopped (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp if skipping the bacon
- 1/2 white onion, sliced thin
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1 tbsp Mama Nina Mix
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (optional)
Method
- Cook the bacon in the sauté pan over medium heat until crisp, 5–6 minutes. Lift it out and leave the fat in the pan. Tip: No bacon? Skip this step and use 2 tbsp olive oil.
- Turn the heat to medium-high. Add the olive oil and the onion. Cook 2–3 minutes, until it starts to soften.
- Add the green beans. Cook 4–5 minutes, stirring now and then, until they blister in spots. Tip: Leave them alone between stirs. The brown spots are the flavor.
- Add the garlic and the Mama Nina Mix. Stir 30 seconds. Tip: The Mix goes in the pan, not on the plate.
- Add the water and cover. Cook 2–3 minutes, until the beans are tender but still snap.
- Take off the lid. Stir the bacon back in, add the lemon juice, and serve hot.
Good to know: Bacon brings salt. It is optional.
Don't be salty.
